As communities across India remain under a nationwide lockdown to mitigate the spread of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, all residents are being advised to practice social distancing during these unprecedented times. While these guidelines are a part of an important effort to reduce the spread of this virus, they have also been particularly challenging for the country's poorest residents, such as the millions living in the slums of Kolkata. Families that used to live day to day are struggling for subsistence more than ever, as the jobs that used to pay them ~1 US dollar per day are now on hold.
In efforts to aid families in need at this time, Pratit International has assembled a team of trained health care professionals to provide food, essential medications, and education on health and sanitation to vulnerable families to get them through the next few weeks.
Relief supplies are being provided to each family, consisting of:
1) Everyday food essentials such as rice, lentils and vegetables
2) Medications for both acute and chronic needs
3) Sanitation supplies such as soaps and disinfectants
Please consider donating to this cause below. Just $10 could feed a whole family for the remainder of the lockdown.
